1. How do children and teens think?

​

Using the latest developmental research we explore what happens psychologically and emotionally during childhood and how this impacts on a young person's experience of divorce.

​

2. What does Attachment actually mean?

​

We will look at the fundamentals of Attachment Theory and what this theory, and the evidence surrounding it, means for how we support families going through divorce.

 

3. Communicating with children.

​

Children communicate in a variety of ways, and this session explores how to best listen and talk to children - and adults - so that we can understand their needs and offer the most effective support and guidance. 

 

4. Cooperative parenting when separated.

​

Parenting is a challenging task at the best of times, but parenting cooperatively after a separation adds a great level of complexity. We will look at evidence based theories and models to help us understand and work with separated parents so that children get the care they need throughout the divorce and beyond. 

 

5. The impact of conflict and absence on children.

​

We know that divorce can have a negative impact on children, but it is the specific factors around the divorce rather than the divorce per se that leads to this. Understanding these factors means we can formulate each family's individual needs so that we can effectively work with them.

 

6. Child well-being and mental health.

​

We will review and summarise key information from the course and explore ways of putting this knowledge into practice.
